An external fitting where waste or rainwater enters the below-ground drain, usually with a grate on top and a trap beneath. Yard gullies, back inlet gullies and road gullies are the common types.
What it means for you
The gully is the easiest part of a drain to check yourself: lift the grate and look for standing water.
