Why we quote fixed prices
An hourly rate transfers all the risk of a difficult job onto the customer. A fixed price puts it on us, which is where it belongs: we are the ones who can judge how long something will take.
It also removes the awkward conversation at the end. The figure you are given on the call is the figure on the invoice, and it does not move because the job turned out to be harder than expected.
What changes the price
Two things, and we will tell you about either before doing the work.
The pipe is damaged rather than blocked. Clearing is not the answer to a cracked or displaced drain, and repeating a clearance every few months is money wasted. We will recommend a survey and quote the repair separately once we can see what is there.
Urgency, on the work itself. An emergency attendance can affect the price of the job, though never through a call-out fee. Whatever the figure is, you have it up front.
What is included as standard

When it is not your bill
Since 2011 in England, most shared drains and the lateral running from your boundary to the public sewer are the water company’s responsibility. For nearly all London addresses that means Thames Water, and they attend faults on their pipework at no cost to you.
Establishing which side of the boundary a fault sits on is part of what we do on arrival. It is worth knowing before anyone invoices you.
