Drain surveys in N1 rarely wait for a convenient moment. Our call-out runs 24 hours covering Islington, Barnsbury, Canonbury and Hoxton, with the price agreed up front.
What we cover in N1
Our coverage of N1 includes Islington, Barnsbury, Canonbury and Hoxton, in Islington and Hackney. Since we work the surrounding postcodes as well, a drain shared between streets is not a problem.
Islington, Barnsbury and Canonbury are Georgian and early Victorian terraces, a high proportion split into flats, alongside the restaurant strip on Upper Street. Shared laterals under front gardens are the norm here.
Common causes in N1
Most of what we attend in N1 comes down to a short list:
- A drain that keeps blocking, which usually means a physical defect
- A property being bought, where the drainage condition is unknown
- An insurer asking for evidence that has to be supported properly
- Building work about to start, so the pipe has to be found before digging
Signs worth reporting
Before you call, it helps to know what you are looking at:
- Water standing in an outside gully long after use
- More than one appliance backing up, not just one
- Gurgling from a toilet or sink as another appliance drains
- A drain smell outside that is stronger in warm weather
How the visit works
We work to the same order on every visit, which is what keeps the price fixed:
- Flush the run so the camera can read the pipe
- Record the entire line
- Locate every fault from the surface
- Provide the footage and a written summary
Before we arrive
What to do before we get there:
- Stop using water in the property, particularly appliances on a timer
- Move children and pets away from the affected area
- Clear access to the drain covers if you can
- Note which fittings are affected when you ring
Who pays for the repair
Not every blockage is yours to pay for. Most pipework beyond your boundary became the water company’s responsibility in 2011, so a fault out in the road is not yours to fund. We establish which side of the line the fault sits and tell you plainly, including when the answer is that you should call Thames Water instead.
What it costs in N1
A CCTV drain survey is a fixed £300 plus VAT, footage and written summary included. Prices are fixed rather than hourly, which means a stubborn blockage costs what we said.
