We attend a great many restaurants and cafes right across Greater London, and the pattern is consistent.
How restaurants and cafes are drained
Commercial kitchens put more fat, oil and grease into a drain in a week than a household does in a year, and they usually share the run with flats above.
What goes wrong
Undersized or poorly serviced grease management is behind most repeat blockages. Once fat has coated the pipe, everything else that passes sticks to it.
Our approach
A planned jetting schedule costs less than emergency call-outs and does not close the kitchen at short notice. We work before opening or after close.
Signs worth reporting
- Water sitting in a drain outside hours after the last discharge
- More than one appliance backing up, which points at the shared run
- Gurgling from a toilet or sink when something else empties
- A sour smell near the gully that keeps coming back
Before we arrive
- Keep water use to nothing, particularly appliances on a timer
- Keep people and pets away from any standing waste water
- Clear access to the drain covers if you can
- Note which fittings are affected for the call
Who pays for the repair
Not every blockage is yours to pay for. Shared drains and laterals transferred to the water company in England in 2011, and a defect on the shared run is not your cost. We establish which side of the line the fault sits and tell you plainly, including when the answer is that you should call Thames Water instead.
