Family-run since 2013, we work right across the capital, with WC1 among the areas we attend most. It includes Bloomsbury, Holborn and King’s Cross.
What we cover in WC1
WC1 takes in Bloomsbury, Holborn and King’s Cross, inside Camden. We attend both residential and commercial property here, from a slow sink to a complete system.
Bloomsbury and Holborn are dominated by Georgian terraces converted into offices, flats and institutional use. Lightwells, basement kitchens and vaults are common, and inspection chambers are frequently under paving at the front.
Common causes in WC1
The causes we see most often in WC1 follow a pattern:
- A drain that keeps blocking, which points to a fault in the pipe
- A purchase in progress, and no records of the drainage
- An insurance claim that has to be supported properly
- Building work about to start, which needs the drain traced accurately
Signs worth reporting
Before you call, it helps to know what you are looking at:
- Water standing in an outside gully when nothing is running
- Several fittings draining slowly at once, not just one
- Bubbling in the pan when the bath is let out
- A drain smell outside that worsens after rain
How the visit works
The order matters, so we work it out before we jet:
- Remove debris so the footage shows the pipe, not the deposits
- Record the entire line
- Locate every fault from the surface
- Give you footage plus a report an insurer will accept
Before we arrive
In the meantime, there are two or three useful steps:
- Keep water use to nothing, especially washing machines
- Cordon off contaminated ground
- Make sure the chambers can be reached
- Jot down what is draining and what is not so we arrive prepared
Who pays for the repair
Not every blockage is yours to pay for. Most pipework beyond your boundary became the water company’s responsibility in 2011, so a fault out in the road is not yours to fund. We establish which side of the line the fault sits and tell you plainly, even where it means there is no job in it for us.
What it costs in WC1
A CCTV drain survey is a fixed £300 plus VAT, footage and written summary included. We quote a fixed price, not a rate, which means a stubborn blockage costs what we said.
