Family-run since 2013, we work right across the capital, and WC1 is inside our core coverage. It includes Bloomsbury, Holborn and King’s Cross.
What we cover in WC1
WC1 takes in Bloomsbury, Holborn and King’s Cross, within Camden. We attend both residential and commercial property here, whatever the size of the job.
Bloomsbury and Holborn are dominated by Georgian terraces converted into offices, flats and institutional use. Lightwells, basement kitchens and vaults are common, and inspection chambers are frequently under paving at the front.
Common causes in WC1
What actually causes most of the work in WC1 follow a pattern:
- Grease from the kitchen, which sets on the pipe wall
- Wipes marketed as flushable, which do not break down once flushed
- Roots from nearby planting entering through a cracked joint
- Silt and grit collecting in a low point
Signs worth reporting
What tends to prompt the call around WC1:
- Water standing in an outside gully long after use
- Several fittings draining slowly at once, not just one
- Gurgling from a toilet or sink when the bath is let out
- A drain smell outside that is stronger in warm weather
How the visit works
What we do when we get there:
- Work through the inspection chambers to find where the flow stops
- Confirm whether the fault is inside your boundary
- Clear the blockage with water jetting at a pressure suited to the pipe
- Flush the line and test each fitting before we finish
Before we arrive
While you wait for us, a couple of things make a real difference:
- Hold off on taps, showers and appliances, including the washing machine and dishwasher
- Cordon off contaminated ground
- Clear access to the drain covers if you can
- Jot down what is draining and what is not when you ring
Who pays for the repair
On terraced and converted property, ownership is the first thing to settle. Pipework inside your boundary serving only your property is yours; beyond that, and on anything shared, it is generally the water company’s. We put that in writing after the visit.
What it costs in WC1
Outside drain clearance is a fixed £144 plus VAT. Prices are fixed rather than hourly, so a difficult job in WC1 does not become an expensive surprise.
