Family-run since 2013, we work right across the capital, and E1 is inside our core coverage. The postcode takes in Whitechapel, Stepney, Wapping and Spitalfields.
What we cover in E1
The area we cover in E1 includes Whitechapel, Stepney, Wapping and Spitalfields, in Tower Hamlets. Since we work the surrounding postcodes as well, we can deal with both ends of a shared run.
Whitechapel, Stepney and Wapping range from estates to warehouse conversions to newer flats. The Wapping riverside is tidal and low-lying, so surface water clears slowly after heavy rain.
Common causes in E1
Across E1, these are the ones that come up again and again:
- Cooking fat washed into the kitchen waste, which cools and hardens inside the pipe
- Wet wipes, which do not break down in the drain
- Tree and shrub roots working into the pipe
- Sand and silt building up where flow slows
Signs worth reporting
The signs that bring people to call us around E1:
- Standing water in a yard gully hours after the last discharge
- Several fittings draining slowly at once, rather than a single sink
- A glugging noise from a plughole when the bath is let out
- A drain smell outside that worsens after rain
How the visit works
The process is the same whatever the address, which is how we can quote a fixed price:
- Check the chambers along the run to find where the flow stops
- Establish whether it is your pipe or the water company’s
- Jet the restriction out at a pressure suited to the pipe
- Prove the flow from every connected appliance before we finish
Before we arrive
Worth doing while you wait:
- Keep water use to nothing, particularly appliances on a timer
- Cordon off contaminated ground
- Move bins or planters off the inspection covers
- Note which fittings are affected so we arrive prepared
Who pays for the repair
Not every blockage is yours to pay for. Shared drains and laterals transferred to the water company in England in 2011, which means a fault beyond your boundary is theirs to fix. We work out where the fault is and say so, even where it means there is no job in it for us.
What it costs in E1
Outside drain clearance is a fixed £144 plus VAT. Prices are fixed rather than hourly, so a difficult job in E1 does not become an expensive surprise.
